An excellent Caughley small sized plate, beautifully decorated with the transfer printed blue and white 'Pleasure Boat' or 'Fisherman and Cormorant' pattern, c1785. This beautiful plate is marked on the base with the Caughley Salopian 'S' painted in blue. This mark was used at the famous Caughley factory between c1775-90.

The main transfer printed pattern in the centre of the plate is known as the  'Pleasure Boat' or 'Fisherman and Cormorant' pattern, c1785. This pattern depicts a fisherman on his sailing boat holding a fish that he has caught. Meanwhile a hungry Cormorant bird sits eagerly perched on a rock. Above these is an Island with temples and houses and another fisherman; this time with a rod and line in hand.

This blue and white print is very crisp and clear.

The rim of the plate is decorated with an associated blue cell and  fleur-de-lis border.

The plate has quite a deep centre and is a relatively heavy body material. The base is very clearly marked with the blue Caughley  Salopian 'S' mark, c1785.
