This is a very attractive New Hall tea bowl and saucer decorated with pattern number 161 and dating from c1795. The tea bowl and saucer are of the New Hall hybrid 'hard paste' porcelain making them feel and look very fine. Although the pieces are not marked with the pattern number, the major pieces are, such as the slops basin - which is on my web site also.

The tea bowl and saucer are beautifully hand painted with the colourful bouquets and flower sprigs in pinks, purple, orange and two tones of green. It is certainly a most elegant and delicate design.

The tea bowl has a smooth body shape and the bowl sits upon a raised circular foot rim. The out side of the tea bowl is decorated with the main flower bouquet which includes purple 'aster' type flowers, pink and orange flowers with two tone green foliage. The bouquet is tied with an orange ribbon.

As well as the main bouquet of flowers, evenly spaced around the rest of the tea bowl are three single 'rose' type flower sprigs in the same colours used in the bouquet of pink and purple.

On the inside of the tea bowl it is decorated around the rim with a very pretty border which comprises a pair of closely situated thin black lines about which oscillates a garland of stylised pink flowers with green swags of foliage. There are also orange tiny flower buds on the garland.

Inside the tea bowl on the bottom is a single flower sprig. Altogether a very pretty pattern.

The saucer is decorated in exactly the same way with the same flower bouquet in the centre, surrounded by the single 'rose' type single flower sprigs.

There is the same elegant floral oscillating garland border.

The saucer sits upon a raised circular foot rim and like the tea bowl is unmarked, except for a decorators tally line mark in purple.

This is a most exquisite New Hall Tea Bowl and Saucer, Pattern 161, stylistic flower sprigs and bouquet decoration, flower and foliage garland border, c1795.
