A rare and beautiful First Period Worcester pear shaped milk jug and cover with flower finial, c1775. Decorated with underglaze cobalt blue bands to the rim of the jug and cover, richly embellished with fine gilded decoration, this is a charming and delightful milk jug and cover with a vertically moulded body. This is certainly a fine early Worcester jug that is in excellent condition for the connoisseur collector.
The jug itself has a pear shaped body with vertical moulded flutes giving it a very elegant shape. The moulded fluting is also applied to the cover of the jug.
The jug and cover have a wide band of underglaze cobalt blue round the rims. These blue bands have gilded lines running across them. The blue bands are bounded with gilded lines.
The main body of the jug has elegant gilded decoration around it in the form of stylised foliage and an oscillating line with dots. This pattern is also applied to the cover.
A charming ear shaped delicate handle is given to this jug, this is finely embellished with a gilded lines to the sides and also to the back with gilded dots to the lower portion.
There is a pointed sparrow beak spout to the jug.
The jug stands on a raised foot rim which has a gilded line around it.
The underside of the jug is marked with an underglaze blue Worcester crescent mark, this jug dating from c1775.
The cover of this jug has a delightful flower finial, which is picked out with gilding. The delicately moulded flower gives this cover a charming cover a most elegant appearance. This flower is very finely moulded with delicate petals around the central flower stamens. The flower is joined to the jug by its stem and has two leaves at the end of the stem. The flower petals, stamens and leaves are embellished with gilding.
