This very fine quality tea bowl and saucer is moulded with 'shanked' (or spiral) lines which was the latest design in fashion at the later period of the eighteenth century. These moulded lines are very finely potted and create a most decorative effect.
The outer body of the tea bowl and the inside of the saucer are beautifully decorated with the 'Fly' pattern, this includes three gilt flies positioned around the body, these having between them three gilt flower sprigs.
A rich underglaze Cobalt blue border runs around the inside top of the tea bowl and the saucer. These are decorated with a trail of gilt leaves and berries. Around the inside base of the bowl and the saucer is a cobalt blue and gilt wreath decoration. A gilded line runs round the outside of the foot of the bowl.
Both the tea bowl and the saucer are marked on the base with the Worcester open blue crescent mark used at the Worcester factory c1755-1790. The tea bowl and saucer date from c1790.
