The very elegant decoration comprises two cobalt blue bands that run round the plate, one on the very rim with a dental gilt edge on the rim and the other wider one with gilt lines each side and on the blue band is a wreath of very finely executed foliage running about a thick gilt central line.
In the centre of the plate is a very delicate blue and gold decoration. This comprises a narrow cobalt blue line about which is a delicate gilded garland of foliage.
In the centre of the plate is a magnificent gilded garter star with a cobalt blue oval centre.
This beautiful early Derby plate is marked on the base with the puce Derby mark of a crown above crossed batons and dots, together with the pattern number '45'. This puce mark was used at the famous Derby factory between c1782-1800. It also has a decorator's mark of a puce '5' near to the foot rim.
This elegant Derby plate is in good condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. The only extremely minor imperfections are some wear to the gilding, mostly to the garter star in the centre of the pate where knife cut lines can be seen, as shown in the pictures below. There are also a few little blemishes in the glaze, mainly on the underside of the plate, but these are insignificant and just from the manufacture.
