This very fine quality milk jug is moulded with 'shanked' (or spiral) lines which was the latest design in fashion at the later period of the eighteenth century. These moulded lines are very finely potted and create a most decorative effect.
The body of the jug is elegantly decorated with hand painted 'cornflowers'. There are three such 'cornflower' sprigs evenly spaced around the body of the jug. Each sprig is beautifully painted using blue, pink and green for the flower and petals, with fine gilt foliage. These cornflowers are interspersed with small gilt foliate leaves.
The open loop handle of the jug has a moulded inner spur near the base and the back edge of the jug is decorated with gilt foliage.
The rim of the jug has an applied gilt line around it.
This jug is unmarked but is from the Worcester factory in the 'Flight and Barr' period and dates from c1790.
This beautiful jug is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. The only very minor imperfection is a little wear to the gilt decoration, this is mainly on the gilt rim and handle decoration, but is minor and does not detract from this elegant Worcester jug.
