This very fine quality coffee can and saucer is moulded with 'shanked' (or spiral) lines which was the latest design in fashion at the later period of the eighteenth century. These moulded lines are very finely potted and create a most decorative effect.
Around the outside of the coffee can there are three gilt Thistle flower and leaves.
A rich under glaze Cobalt blue border runs around the inner rim of the coffee can, this is decorated with a trail of gilt leaves and berries. This decoration in blue and gilt is also applied to the saucer.
The handle of the coffee can is a moulded open loop shape with applied gilt decoration on the back edge.
The coffee can is marked on the underside of the foot rim with a scratched 'B' mark.
The saucer is decorated in the same fashion as the coffee can.
A rich under glaze Cobalt blue border runs around the inner rim of the saucer, this is decorated with a trail of gilt leaves and berries.
In the base of the saucer is a circular cartouche formed by a line of under glaze blue bounded by a gilt line on the outer edge and a scalloped gilt line on the inner edge. Inside this circle is a gilded Thistle flower and leaves.
The coffee can and saucer are marked with the incised scratched 'B', which was used during the Barr Worcester period at the Worcester factory.
Generally, the coffee can and saucer are in good condition. The only imperfections are that there is a small chip and associated short hairline crack to the rim of the coffee can, as shown in the first picture below. Also, there is some fine kiln dust speckling in the bottom half of the coffee can. Apart from these, this is a fine coffee can and saucer from the Worcester factory c1795
