This stunning Chamberlain's Worcester coffee cup and saucer have
'shanked' or spiral moulded bodies which is a very elegant shape and the rich
honey coloured gilding together with the regal underglaze cobalt blue
border makes for a charming design and combination.

The coffee cup is of a pretty and elegant shape and the
'shanked' moulded lines display the typical tram line (double moulded line)
characteristic of the Chamberlain's Worcester factory. The outside of the coffee
can displays some fine gilding in the form of a garland of 'gold leafage' - as
described in the Chamberlain's Worcester pattern book.

The coffee can sits upon a raised circular foot rim and at the
base of the coffee cup is a gilded scalloped line.

The quality of the rich honey coloured gilding of the leafage is
excellent and so very finely detailed.

The inner rim of the coffee can has a deep underglaze cobalt
blue border on which is a 'gold ovals' design - as listed in the pattern book.
These gold ovals have in them a birds eye type of design and between the ovals
are fine vertical gold lines. From the cobalt blue border there is dropping
leafage into the cup, matching the decoration on the outside of the cup.

The handle of the coffee cup is an open ear shape and has
foliate type gilding to its back edge.

There is no mark on the base of the coffee cup, but there is the
pattern number painted on the underside of the saucer.

The saucer has the same exquisite decoration as on the coffee
cup.

The rim of the saucer has a deep underglaze cobalt blue border
on which is a 'gold ovals' design - as listed in the pattern book. These gold
ovals have in them a birds eye type of design and between the ovals are fine
vertical gold lines. From the cobalt blue border there is dropping leafage into
the saucer.

Again, the rich honey coloured gilding is superb. The underside
of the saucer is painted with the pattern number 'N61' in puce.

In the centre of the saucer is a cartouche formed by a gold
scalloped circle. In the centre of this gilded circle is a finely gilded flower
sprigg of rose buds.

This is a magnificent Chamberlain's Worcester coffee cup and
saucer with exquisite cobalt blue and fine gilded decoration, pattern number 61,
c1795.

Marks:
The saucer is marked on the underside with the Chamberlain's Worcester
pattern number 'N61' in puce. This pattern is described in the Chamberlain's
Worcester pattern book as 'Shanked blue border with gold ovals, gold leafage
dropping inside'.

This magnificent Chamberlain's Worcester coffee cup and saucer are in really
excellent condition with no chips, cracks repairs or restoration. Also, this has
the most beautiful gilding that is in such very fine and excellent condition,
which is rare to find on a piece of this age. the only extremely minor
imperfection is in the bottom of the cup is some speckled partials in the glaze
from the time of manufacture and firing of the cup and the really minor rubbing
of the gilding on the high spots on the rim of the coffee cup - but I do mean
minor!

This certainly is a first rate coffee can and saucer for the
connoisseur collector of Chamberlain Worcester or early English wares
