The cup is an elegant shape and has a smooth body. the blue and
gilt decoration was extremely fashionable at the end of the eighteenth century
and into the first part of the nineteenth century.

The main body of the cup is decorated with a wide band of
underglaze rich cobalt blue, this applied to the outer rim. Applied on top of this rich blue band is the heavenly honey coloured gilt
decoration in the form of 'Barley Ears'. The blue band is bounded top and bottom
by a thick gilded line. The lower line has below it a fringed or 'feathered' gold line which is
extremely fine.

Around the body of the cup are delightful three rose buds, these are
interspersed with minor gilded leaf sprigs. The rim of the cup and around the foot is gilded.

The cup has an open loop handle, this design of handle is
typical of the first part of the nineteenth century

There is gilt foliage decoration applied to the back edge of the
loop handle and a further gilt rose bud applied to the inside of the bottom of
the cup.
The cup sits upon a circular raised foot rim and on the
underside of the cup is the pattern number applied in puce, pattern 273.

The saucer has the same smooth body as the cup

It is decorated in the same way as the cup with a wide band of
underglaze rich cobalt blue, this applied to the outer rim. Applied on top of this rich blue band is the heavenly honey coloured gilt
decoration in the form of 'Barley Ears'. The blue band is bounded top and bottom
by a thick gilded line. The lower line has below it a fringed or 'feathered' gold line which is
extremely fine.

Around the body of the saucer are delightful three rose buds, these are
interspersed with minor gilded leaf sprigs.

In the centre of the saucer there is a gilded circle in which is

Marks:
The cup is marked on the underside with the Chamberlain
Worcester pattern number 273. This pattern is described as 'Dejeuney,
gilded roses, blue border with gold barley ears' in the list of factory
patterns.

This delightful cup and saucer is generally in good condition with no chips,
cracks, repairs or restoration. The only imperfection is some wear to the
gilding, this most notable on the saucer, especially the rim and the central
gilded circle. The gilding on the cup is mainly fine with just a little wear to
the rim and the gilding on the back of the cup's handle.

What may appear as a small chip in the rim of the cup is
actually a manufacturing imperfection, as the chip is covered by the glaze. It
is small and just part of the cup's manufacturing history.
