The plate has a circular body that is 'shanked' (spirally moulded) to give a very attractive and well potted body. The inside of the plate bowl is decorated with a hand painted design, 'the red spotted flower'. This is a garland of stylised red flowers formed by five red dots. Each flower has stylised purple foliage at an angle to the flower head. These red dot flowers are linked with a gilded ribbon that oscillates between the flowers. This is a very elegant design.

The plate has a serrated rim which is gilded. A  further gilded line runs around the base of the plate with the same serrated design as the rim.

In the centre of the plate is a large 'red spot flower' with stylised purple foliage radiating from around it. There is no manufacturer's mark on the plate, but it is from the Worcester ''Flight and Barr' factory and dates from c1790.

This is a charming 'Flight & Barr' period Worcester 'shanked' cake or bread and butter plate. Charmingly decorated with the 'red spot flower' pattern c1790.

Size and Weight: (values are approximate)

bullet7¾" (198mm) max. diameter of the plate.
bullet1¾" (45mm) depth of the plate.
bullet9oz (245gms) in weight.)

Marks:

There is no manufacturer's mark on the plate, but it from the Worcester ''Flight and Barr' factory and dates from c1790. It does have a '5' in purple on the inside of the raised foot rim, this I believe is the tally mark of the decorator.

Condition:

This delightful Worcester plate is in good condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. The only very minor imperfections are some small amounts of wear to the high spots on the gilded rim of the bowl and a really tiny bit to the gilt serrated line in the bowl of the plate, but this really is minimal and insignificant.

It is a fine cake or bread and butter plate for the collector of early English or Worcester porcelain.
