A rare First Period Worcester teapot dating from c1770. This
charming teapot has a smooth globular body that is decorated in underglaze blue
with the 'wreath and fruit' pattern. The teapot cover has a beautiful open
flower finial making it a charming teapot for the collector. I would like to
point out that this teapot is not in the perfect condition that I like my stock
items to be, as it has a chip missing from the raised collar of the teapot on
its rim. This is shown clearly in the condition report at the bottom of this
page. However, this teapot and cover are still perfect for displaying, and at a
fraction of the price of a perfect item.

The decoration of the teapot is a blue and white underglaze
print called the 'wreath and fruit pattern.

The oval wreath appears on both sides of the teapots body and
contains within it the fruits.

The fruits comprise a large central fruit rather like an apple
or quince, this surrounded by flowers and foliage.

The wreath is made up of a delicate design in blue and white.

Outside of the wreath and around the rest of the teapots body
are scattered flower sprigs.

The cover of the teapot fits nicely into the raised collar of
the teapot. The cover is decorated in blue and white flower sprigs and has as its
finial, a charming open moulded flower.

The shoulder of the teapot and the rim of the cover are
decorated with a border design of a floral chain entwined with a scrolling
border.

As can be seen, there is a chip missing out of the rim, together
with a repaired little part within the chip and a tiny hairline crack from the
base of the chip to the shoulder of the teapot. This is given in more detail in
the condition report at the bottom of this page.

There is a simple circular section spout to the teapot. This is
embellished with more blue and white floral decoration.

The handle of the teapot is a simple open loop moulded shape.

The underside of the teapot is marked with the blue crescent
mark from the famous Worcester factory.
A
most delightful feature of this teapot, is the most beautiful flower finial to
the domed lid. This is very finely moulded, with the stem of the flower and its
two leaves anchoring it firmly to the lid.

The lid also has blue and white flower sprigs and the rim having
the entwined floral chain and scroll border.

This is s very good example piece for the collector of early
Worcester or English porcelain. An elegant teapot and cover that is beautifully
decorated.

Marks:
This charming teapot has an underglaze blue Worcester 'Crescent' mark. This
mark and the style of the teapot dates it to c1770.

Generally this teapot is in good condition. However, it has had a knock on
the rim of the teapot which has knocked out a wedge shaped chip and caused a
short hairline crack for the base of this chip down to the shoulder of the
teapot. There has been a small part of the chip replaced into the teapot. I
think this damage can be seen clearly in the two pictures below left. It is a
shame that it has this damage, but would still be a fantastic item for the
collector of early Worcester porcelain. This damage would not be evident if in a
display cabinet. The only other very minor imperfection is a few tiny nibbles to
the tip of the flower finial petals.

A rare and fine example piece of Worcester for the collector,
priced down to take into account the damage, thus a more affordable piece too.
