These delightful examples of Derby porcelain are of moulded 'kidney'
shape and no doubt would have been part of a very grand dessert service in the
beginning of the nineteenth century.
Dessert Dish 1:
This 'kidney' or 'Heart' shaped dessert dish is exquisitely
decorated with beautiful pink roses in full flower evenly spaced around the bowl
of the dish. The delicate use of various shades of pink give these roses a very
nice soft and full appearance. Each rose has a few green rose leaves around it.
there is then a fantastic set of gilded leaf sprays emanating from either side
of the rose head diagonally.
Linking the rose heads is a garland of blue and red Chantilly
flowers with green foliage, with their star like qualities. This charming
garland of Chantilly flowers weaves its way round the bowl of the dish between
the roses. This creates a most elegant and charming floral decoration around the
dish.
In the centre of the dish is a gilt 'kidney' or 'heart' shaped
line completing the decoration of this dessert dish.

The dish has a 'kidney' shaped raised foot rim in the middle
of which is the Derby 'Red crown, baton and dots' mark. There are also the
decorator's tally marks in the form of numerals.
Dessert Dish 2:
This second 'kidney' or 'Heart' shaped dessert dish is
exquisitely decorated with beautiful pink roses in full flower evenly spaced
around the bowl of the dish in the same way as the first dish. The delicate use
of various shades of pink give these roses a very nice soft and full appearance.

Marks:
These beautiful Derby dishes bear the painted red crown mark with crossed
batons containing three dots on either side and the 'D' below them. There are
also the decorator's numeral marks. This Derby mark was used at the
factory between c1800-1825. These dish therefore date from this period and are
very fine examples of quality Derby porcelain.

This most decorative pair of derby dessert dishes are in extremely good
condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. The only very minor
imperfections is a very small firing split on the underside foot rim (as shown
below), but is only in the foot rim and was there from the plate's manufacture.
Apart from this there are two tiny areas on one dish where the glaze has not
taken and a couple of light brown areas on the back of one dish within the
slight glaze crazing. All these are very minor imperfection in these most
handsome early Derby dessert dishes.

A very fine pair of decorative dessert dishes for the connoisseur collector
of early English or Derby porcelain.
