Caughley Spoon Tray, 'daffodil painter group', fluted form, gilt rim, c1785-90

A very attractive Caughley spoon tray, c1785-90. This elegant spoon tray is of lozenge shape and has a scalloped raised rim. the decoration is of elegant flower sprigs in underglaze blue with gilding. this decoration is known as the 'daffodil painter group'.

This pretty spoon tray has been decorated with two main floral sprigs in blue and gilt at each end of the inside base. There are then four small single flower sprigs of blue and gilt evenly spaced around the central oval gilt cartouche.

Within the central cartouche is a further gilt and blue spray of flowers.

The shaped rim of the spoon tray has a gilded rim.

The quality of the decoration is very fine, especially the delicate gilding of the flowers.

The underside of the spoon tray is unglazed. There are no manufacturer's marks, but this is a spoon tray from the famous Caughley factory c1785-90.

Marks:

The underside of the spoon tray is unglazed. There are no manufacturer's marks, but this is a spoon tray from the famous Caughley factory c1785-90.

Condition:

This charming Caughley spoon tray is in good condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration. The only extremely minor imperfection is a little rubbing to the gilded rim on the high spots.
